These colored pencil drawings were painstakingly crafted by layering dozens of Prismacolor pencils between 2007-2010. My high school senior thesis explored the effects of light, on contrast and value in reflective surfaces like glass and water. It pushed my knowledge of color theory and layering to my limits and landed several of these pieces in an exhibition at the Wells Gallery of Art in Downtown Charleston. where a few were sold. (RIP) The first of these works, Untitled, a still-life, was the SC District 1 Winner in the 1st Congressional Art Competition. It hung in the Capitol building during the inauguration of 44th President Barack Obama in 2008.

Oil on canvas

At the age of 15 I had already won several local and statewide awards and recognitions for my colored pencil work. My teacher, Ben Moore encouraged me to pick up a paint brush my first year at the Charleston County School of the Arts. The subject matter is nothing to write home about but for my first attempt at painting on canvas this came out just good enough to make it to my senior portfolio show.
