COGSPA

Los Angeles

My name is Joe Micallef, but I go by Cogspa (which stands for Cognitive Space). I am the author of "Beginning Design for 3D Printing" and have a background in animation. My style tends toward the bizarre and whimsical. I received an MFA from the USC film school and currently serve as the Innovation Studio Director at Motorcar Parts of America. Additionally, I teach design, web development, and animation at Pasadena City College. I played Dungeons and Dragons in my youth, watched Saturday morning cartoons, and programmed a TI-99-4A. My fascination with the intersection of art and programming endures to this day. Among my favorite software tools are Houdini, Zbrush, Blender, and Procreate. I combine generative art, analog art, music, electronics, computer science, gaming, and animation in all sorts of exciting ways. In my spare time, I also build synthesizers.
