The Gilgamesh Project is the name of a scientific project aimed at the search for immortality.
Scientists are investigating the physiological, hormonal and genetic systems responsible for disease and aging. Some researchers suggest that by 2050, some people will become "non-immortal" (they are not called immortal, because they can still die from injury or illness, but their lives, unless an accident occurs, can continue indefinitely).
As an example of the success of the project, geneticists have managed to extend the average life expectancy of the Caenorhabditis elegans worm ten times. A group of scientists from the University of Arkansas has shown that a mutation in a gene that is similar to the human gene involved in the formation of insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) can increase the life cycle.
