The mysterious Benny (Joe Sawyer) he helps out a group of criminals in a prison. His main interest was to see that one of them would not have to work in a gangland as usual, as he wanted to live a life of crime without ever leaving his home. Joining the gang is a group of four or five criminals from another town. The four rob a jewelry store and kidnap a woman (Mae West). They are later caught and are sent to prison. The other criminal (Robert Coote) takes a trip to the prison and tells the other side that he is going to help a gang who have a stolen truck which was stolen and he will come pick up all the loot, as they did earlier. Joining the gang is a young outlaw known as "The Bishop", who has not seen a good friend since the other two have gone missing. Joining the group was supposed to help "The Kid", who had recently moved to California and become a local cop. Benny helps the Kid out of the prison. He is not sure whether he is really a true cop, but does tell him that when he was with "The Kid", his life was miserable. Benny continues to assist the Kid and tries to help a woman who was kidnapped by The Kid, after The Kid leaves. He tells the Kid that he killed his partner and has to come return with him. The Kid then asks Benny if there is anything he must do and Benny says that there is and he will kill him, as his life is in danger. The Kid and Benny's daughter, Jean (Fay Wray), have a date. She sees Benny and realizes that she loves him. The Kid decides that she would be better off alone.
