Butch is the most sadistic of the prison guards. All the inmates have a memory of him in their medical files: broken ribs, burns, broken bones… He was kind enough to give Jimmy information in exchange of one of those sadistic counterparts which make his reputation: a fight to the death opposing Jimmy and his coach James Wick. These two friends discussed it all night and ended up accepting the deal. Considering James' prison term, death could represent an escape for him and if he won, he could reduce it by 5 years. The fight was terrible, the friends surrendering blow for blow. Jimmy gave his coach a final punch to the heart, freeing him from his debt to society. Butch revealed to Jimmy that on the night of the fire he was in charge of security. He saw a woman driving out of the area 1 hour before the fire.
