I was in Avila Beach, California taking photos. At the top of a retaining wall by the side of the road was a bunch of rather tenacious California Poppies. This particular day there was not a cloud in the sky. I was able to stand at the base of the wall and shoot up to get the light filtering through the flowers and the beautiful clear blue sky. For my fiber art version, I made the sky much more dramatic. I love the way the fabric adds texture and the thread adds movement. It's one of the reasons I love thread painting so much. Then I discovered digital manipulation and my technical side took over. These images all start with the same base image, which is my original sewn thread painting, which I manipulate in different ways. I am really enjoying this process. And I love the results. It would be difficult for me to choose a favorite, but I do have a few. I wonder if they are the same ones you like.

Bee's Eye View

Bees are able to see color at slightly different wavelengths than humans. When a bee is looking at a flower it can see patterns that are invisible to humans. This is because the flower's colors may include ultra-violet. Bees can see it, but we can't. This piece is a derivative work from an original fiber art thread painting called California Poppies. Various filters are applied to the original digitized artwork to create a one-of-a-kind piece.
