Bryant made the jump to the NBA directly from the Lower Merion Institute in Philadelphia in 1996, the year in which he was selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the Draft, but was immediately traded to the Lakers. Along with Shaquille O'Neal, he led his team to three consecutive NBA titles between 2000 and 2002.
With his death Bryant left behind his wife Vanessa, and three other daughters: Natalia, Bianca, and Capri. As reported by Forbes magazine after the event, the former basketball player's fortune was around 600 million dollars (more than 494 million euros)
