Jasy-Jatere means "fragment of the moon", he was the fourth son of Taú (spirit of evil) and Keraná (goddess of sleep).
He is considered the Guarani Cupid, bearer of fertility.
He carries a small golden cane, the source of his magical power of attraction and also a whistle with which he imitates the song of a bird.
It is believed that he lives in hollow trunks of large forest trees. He roams freely during the siesta, especially at the time of the avatiky (young corn) that he likes to eat.
Protector of bees and ka'a-ruvicha (yerba mate for sorceress)
To win the friendship of Jasy Jatere, people usually leave tobacco and yerba mate.
When Jasy Jatere loses her golden cane and his whistle it becomes harmless, because he lost his magic. It is believed that one way to seize them is by getting him drunk, since he is fond of drinking.
