Jackie Mitchell (1913–1987) was a pioneering American baseball pitcher who, at age 17, signed with the Chattanooga Lookouts and became one of the first women to play professional baseball. She gained national fame on April 2, 1931, when she struck out both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in an exhibition game against the New York Yankees, an achievement that made headlines across the country. Though her professional career was cut short when her contract was voided soon after, Mitchell remains celebrated as a trailblazer for women in sports.
